Over the years, my art interests have been diversified. As a child, I always drew people and faces. In the evolution of my art world the work transitioned from those early attempts to landscape, to fantasy, to abstract, then still life and florals and back to an abstracted view. Inspiration comes from dreams, my mind's eye and travel. The quest for challenge keeps my imagination seeking new solutions. Being a professional artist is sometimes frustrating, but it is always eventually satisfying and really is an exciting profession.

I always had a dream of painting. I did some drawing but never had the money to buy painting supplies or take classes. The public library had a great art instruction section so I was a common fixture there. I read every book they had on painting.

Gerry Wood has had a lifelong interest in art and was associated with painting as a child since her mother was an artist. A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, she attended Oklahoma State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.

I am a painter using a variety of media. My latest phase is animal acrylic painting.

All my gourd birdhouses and gourd creations are original. Each is handcrafted, handpainted, signed and dated. Birdhouses and birdfeeders are treated with a durable weatherproof finish and come ready to hang. Their colors will stay bright from year to year. Birds love them but they look great indoors too!

I think that my biggest fault, as far as my art is concerned, is my demand for detail. The quest for "photo-real" renderings is something that is buried deep within me. I cannot be satisfied unless the finished product is as close to a reproduction of the original photo as humanly possible. It is this desire for realism that keeps me coming back again and again, looking for that one "new trick" that will bring me closer to perfection.
